Anyone who didn’t agree to WhatsApp’s updated terms of service and privacy policy starting Monday will have their account put on hold and deleted after 120 days.

Policy Changes:

  • WhatsApp offers the ability to chat with businesses, for example, to make purchases.
  • WhatsApp promises “more clarity” about how it collects, shares and uses data – which means the privacy policy has become more detailed.
  • Just like on other messenger services, you have a “self-deleting messages” feature. You can also control who adds you to groups.
  • WhatsApp assures that the “privacy and security” of personal chats will not change. Contents of messages can not be viewed.
  • WhatsApp can only determine the exact location with the consent of the cell phone owner. The duration and frequency of use are stored.
  • Many WhatsApp users have switched to other messengers like Signal or Telegram because of privacy concerns. However, the privacy situation there is also questionable.
